Does it really matter how "likeable" a candidate's spouse is?

I just noticed that there is an article on Yahoo! about a poll that was conducted to determine the likeability of Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain. Does it really matter how "likeable" a candidate's spouse is? After all, the spouses aren't going to be the ones running the country!
